Uludağ Ski Resort is situated in the south Marmara region in Uludag National Park only 36 kilometers from Bursa and 150 kilometers from the airport in Istanbul. Uludağ has acquired a reputation of being the best ski resort in the country due to its chest deep powder snow, amazing night life and the ski in/ski out hotels at its base. Not only that, but the prices are very affordable being much less costly than European ski resorts. Uludağ is open 120 days of the year with the season lasting from mid December to mid or late April. The most suitable skiing conditions are between the 20th of December and the 20th of March. The average snowfall is 3 meters during the winter. At the beginning of the season the type of snow is powder and at the end of the season the snow can be slightly slushy. Qualified ski instructors are available and ski equipment can be rented locally. The aprés-ski is where Turkish ski resorts shine and the after ski scene at Uludağ Ski Resort is one of the best in Turkey.
The nearby city of Bursa also has plenty of accommodation, bars and restaurants and interesting places to visit. Skiers can get to Uludağ Ski Resort from Bursa via cablecar, dolmus or taxi. There are four sections of the cablecar route to reach Uludağ - two between the Bursa and Kadi plateau lying at 1,235 meters and two between Kadi and Sari Alan at 1621 meters. Each line has gondolas that can carry 30 people - although it is prohibited to carry ski equipment. These depart the district of Teleferik every 20 minutes and stop at Kadi where you change gondolas - overall taking around 25 minutes. In the summer season there is a chairlift from Sari Alan to Coban Kaya at 1750 meters in elevation. Other ski resorts in Turkey are to be found at Mount Erciyes, close to Kayseri and to the far south-east of Bursa, and also at Mount Palandöken, which is situated near the town of Erzurum on the eastern side of Turkey. Although both of these winter resorts are quite a way away - they are guaranteed snow even during the very mildest of Turkish winters.
